Actos Information
Actos is used to treat type 2 diabetes by reducing the resistance your body has to insulin. Actos is used either alone or in combination with other anti-diabetes medicines, including metformin or insulin, as part of a diet and exercise program.

What are the side effects of Actos?
The most common side effects of Actos include respiratory infection, sinusitis, headache, and muscle pain. When used in combination with insulin, Actos may also cause swelling of the legs and ankles and low blood sugars. Also, Actos can increase the chance of pregnancy in premenopausal women who haven't been ovulating by causing ovulation to resume.
Are there any interactions with Actos?
Since Actos is still a relatively new drug, there is limited information about its drug interactions. There are no reported drug interactions with Actos. But, it may lower the effectiveness of birth control pills. If you take Actos and birth control pills, be sure to use another form of contraception such as a condom. Also, Actos can increase the chance of pregnancy in premenopausal women who haven't been ovulating by causing ovulation to resume.
